"Assuming that the market price of methamphetamine per gram is Rp2 million, we have seized Rp2 billion worth of crystal meth," said the Head of P2 Office Jakarta Customs, Wardana Hatta.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Customs and excise officers, in cooperation with the National Narcotics Agency (BNN), have foiled an attempt to smuggle one kilogram of crystal methamphetamine, worth Rp2 billion, from Mumbai into Indonesia.

"Assuming that the market price of methamphetamine per gram is Rp2 million, we have seized Rp2 billion worth of crystal meth," said the Head of P2 Office Jakarta Customs, Wardana Hatta, at a press conference here on Thursday.

"The drugs packet was found on Friday morning (December 28, 2012) when our customs officers were inspecting some goods for the post office, which were marked as `Office Accessories'," he explained.

The customs officers found packets of white-coloured powder, weighing a total of 1,015 grams, within the walls of an accessories board.

After that, the officers got the crystals examined in a laboratory, where it was found that the substance was methamphetamine.

"Thanks to the discovery, some 4,000 lives have been saved from the threat of drug abuse," Wardana pointed out.

"A suspect, identified by his initials as AN, has been arrested. However, the BNN will have to carry out further investigations," he stated.

The suspect was arrested while receiving the package at his residence in Bulak, North Bekasi.

AN has violated Article 114 Paragraph 2, Article 113 Paragraph 2 and Article 112 Paragraph 2 of Law No.35/2009 on narcotics, for which he could be sentenced to capital punishment.(*)
