Beirut (ANTARA News/Xinhua-OANA) - The Lebanese government adopted Thursday a three-part plan to tackle the influx of Syrian refugees, despite the objection of the Change and Reform bloc.

Ministerial sources, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Xinhua that the three-part plan involves "counting of refugees, medical and food aid, and security and social consequences."

The relief plan adopted by the cabinet requires more than 320 million U.S. dollars to provide necessary humanitarian aid to the displaced Syrians.

The Change and Reform bloc, led by MP Michel Aoun, insisted on closing the border to stop the influx of Syrian refugees. Energy and Water Minister Jebran Bassil, a member of the bloc, said earlier "we`ve asked the state for a clear official stance that Lebanon cannot take in any additional refugee."

"The number of refugees must be reduced to minimum by returning them to safe Syrian regions or deporting them to other countries," Bassil said.

The United Nations Higher Refugees Council puts the number of Syrian refugees in Lebanon at 176,000, while some others estimate the number to reach at least 300,000 in the next six months. (*)
