Pontianak, West Kalimantan (ANTARA News) - The number of foreign workers in West Kalimantan drastically increased in the last two months of 2012.

"Currently, the foreign workers number in West Kalimantan noted at 300 persons. While the previous data on October 2012 noted the figures at 143 people," said the Managing Task Person of Manpower and Transmigration Sub-official of West Kalimantan province, Haris Harahap in Pontianak, on Saturday.

He said the foreign workers are spread across the regencies and cities in West Kalimantan in various fields of work, includes construction, plantation, and other sectors.

The number of foreign workers in Sanggau Regency noted at 90 people and majority works in the plantation sector.

While in Pontianak regency, the number of foreign workers noted at 81 persons which is mostly works in the construction project of power plant owned by Electricity State Company.

For the migrant workers number in Sekadau regency noted at 12 persons and at least 31 people worked at Kubu Raya regency.

"The whole migrant workers have been registered. Previously, the company should obtain permit before hiring the foreign workers," he said.

He added that the permits for foreign workers were issued by the central government.

"While the function of the related sub-official is to supervise the foreign workers in their areas," said Haris.

He added that the sub-official also supervise the companies which employ the migrant workers whether it is in accordance with Minister Decree No. 02/2008 regarding the Terms of Foreign Workers Employment.
