KUALA LUMPUR, Jan. 11, 2013 (ANTARA/BERNAMA-AsiaNet) --

A contract worth over 60 million euro for Alstom

Alstom and its consortium partner, Hydrochina Zhongnan Engineering Corp, have signed a contract worth over 90 million euro with Vietnam Electricity (EVN) to provide the electro-mechanical equipment of the 1,200 MW Lai Chau hydro power plant located on the Da River, in Lai Chau Province. Alstom's share in the contract is worth over 60 million euro. The scope of the contract includes delivery, supervision of erection, testing and commissioning of three Francis 400 MW turbine, generator sets, mechanical and electrical auxiliaries.

The equipment will be manufactured at Alstom's hydropower industrial facility in Tianjin (China) - Alstom's largest hydropower manufacturing base and a leading supplier of equipment in China and across Asia.

Construction of the Lai Chau hydro power plant began in January 2011 and is expected to be completed in 2017. The plant will be the third largest hydro plant in Vietnam, generating more than 4.7 billion kWh every year to the national grid. The project will also improve the irrigation water supply for downstream areas, especially in the dry season as well as river navigation and water supply for agriculture, among other socio-economic factors in the Lai Chau province.

Jérôme Pécresse, President of Alstom Renewable Power said, "This success further reinforces our already long and successful partnership with EVN. Alstom is pleased to contribute to Vietnam's strong socio-economic development by meeting significant growth in energy demands."

Present in Vietnam for more than 20 years, Alstom has been playing a significant role in the Vietnamese power generation development plan. After the recent contract awards for 520 MW Hoi Quang and 156 MW Song Bung 4 hydro power plants, the Group announced at the end of September 2012 the successful grid synchronisation of the sixth and last turbine & generator set of the 2,400MW Son La power plant, the largest hydropower plant in Vietnam and South East Asia.
