"In general, the prices of other commodities remain stable. But if floods continue to happen the prices of other commodities will likely be affected," Trade Minister Gita Wiryawan said said.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Trade Minister Gita Wiryawan said floods that swept through many areas in Jakarta over the past few days pushed the prices of several basic necessaries to increase, but overall, the prices of basic necessaries were stable.

The commodities that saw price hikes included red chilis, chicken eggs, chicken meat, onion and garlic, he said here on Monday.

"In general, the prices of other commodities remain stable. But if floods continue to happen the prices of other commodities will likely be affected," he said.

Gita said the ministry had not taken any specific measure to respond to the increase in the prices of several basic necessaries.

The prices of red chilis and fruits in the Kramatjati wholesale market in East Jakarta skyrocketed in the wake of last week`s flooding in the capital.

The prices of red chilis rose to Rp35,000 from Rp25,000 a kg, of onion to Rp25,000 from Rp20,000 a kg, of orange to Rp15,000 from Rp13,000 a kg, Malang apple to Rp14,000 from Rp12,000 a kg, water melon to Rp7,500 from Rp7,000 a kg, and of mangosteen to Rp12,000 from Rp10,000 a kg previously.(*)
