Sleman, Yogyakarta (ANTARA News) - A team of military investigators visited the Yogyakarta police command headquarters here on Wednesday in connection with the recent killings of detainees in a penitentiary in Sleman.

The team from the Defense Forces (TNI) Headquarters arrived at around 9am and immediately held a closed-door meeting with the chief of the Yogyakarta police command, Brigadier General Sabar Rahjardja.

Army chief of staff General Pramono Edhie Wibowo had indicated involvement of TNI members in Central Java in the killing of four detainees put there by the police who had arrested them for alleged involvement in a fight in Hugo`s Cafe that led to the death of an army special force Kopassus member.

The government has condemned the brutal attack and has called for a thorough investigation into the case and brought the perpetrators to justice.

The Yogyakarta police command spokesperson, Adjunct Senior Commissioner Anny Pudjiastuti, however denied that the team had come to conduct investigation.

"The arrival of the team was the follow up of the statement of the army chief of staff on indications of involvement of TNI members (in the attack)," she said.

She said the main goal of the nine-member team was helping unveil the perpetrators of the incident.

"The arrival of the team was only for communication purposes not investigation. The National Police and the Yogyakarta Police Command are ready to unveil the case," he said.

The team was led by intelligence deputy chief of the TNI Headquarters, Col Agus Nedi.

After meeting with the chief of the Yogyakarta regional police command, the team then entered the office of the crime investigation directorate of the regional police command that handled the death case of first sergeant Santoso at Hugo`s Cafe.
