Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono received the Indonesian Ulema Council`s (MUI) leaders at the Presidential Office here on Wednesday.

The MUI`s leaders included Umar Shihab, Muhidin Junaedi, Amidhan, Slamet Effendy Yusuf, Anwar Abbas, Sinansari Ecip, Basri Bermanda and MUI`s Deputy Secretary Gegneral Natsir Zubaidi.

They were led by MUI`s Coordinating Chairman Ma`ruf Amin.

During the meeting, Ma`ruf expressed MUI`s appreciation for the passing into law of a number of bills under the leadership of President Yudhoyono.

The laws that have been enacted included the banking law, the syariah (Islamic-based) security law and the anti-pornography law.

On the occasion, the MUI leader also hoped that the government would also produce regulations or laws on alcoholic drinks, inter-faith harmony to prevent conflict and guarantee on halal (allowed based Islamic law) products.

During the meeting which lasted for about 40 minutes the president was accompanied by Chief Minister for People`s Welfare Agung Laksono, Minister/State Secretary Sudi Silalahi, Home Affairs Minister Gamawan Fauzi and Cabinet Secretary Dipo Alam.
