Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Jakarta`s Metropolitan Police Command issued a call here on Tuesday for workers not to block toll roads during demonstration to mark Labor Day on May 1.

"Police would strive to prevent that from happening," the command`s deputy chief, Brigadier General Sujarno, said.

He said the chief of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Command has already ordered resort police chiefs to take anticipatory measures to prevent possible blockade of toll roads by workers during the May 1 demonstration.

He said police would take persuasive approach in their efforts to prevent it.

He said the police`s security priorities would be put on toll roads and in factories for possible sweeps to force workers to join the demonstration.

He said the police had already taken persuasive actions to anticipate against the actions.

He said the police also planned to meet with workers` leaders to appeal to them to assure peaceful and orderly demonstration.

"We appeal to companies and workers to mark the day by staging puppet shows or holding a traditional rice-cone feast gathering rather than demonstration," he said
