Women emancipation is now better than before...
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Social Affairs Minister Salim Segaf Al Jufri has said emancipation should be upheld by stopping domestic violence against women and children.

"Women emancipation is now better than before and it must continue to be upheld by stopping domestic violence," the minister said when attending the commemoration of Kartini Day at his office on Tuesday.

The Kartini Day is observed on April 21 every year to mark the birth of Raden Ajeng Kartini, an Indonesian national heroine born in 1879 who pioneered in the area of women`s rights.

Salim Segaf noted that the present day women have had the equal rights with men, particularly in expressing their idea, and acquiring their goals and education in various fields.

But according to him, domestic violence against women and children still exists with the number continues to rise every year.

The minister asserted that inhuman domestic violence should be stopped because the home is a place for children to be loved and for women to be protected.

Further, he added that the programs of the Ministry of Social Affairs were intended to create household harmony.

Besides, he said the ministry also has the Family Welfare Consultation Center (LK3) in every district to serve problematic family members.

The minister said the even the slightest conflict in the household should be immediately solved in a peaceful manner before it led to domestic violence.
