Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Publicly-listed state gas firm PT Perusahaan Gas Negara Tbk (PGN) said its net profit fell by 3.84 percent to US$265.3 million in the year to March 2013 from US$275.9 million in the same period last year.

Net income in the first quarter of 2013 rose by 25 percent to US$731.1 million from US$583.2 million in the same quarter last year, the company said in a press statement released on Wednesday.

The statement said earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) meanwhile fell to US$314.5 million in the first three months of 2013 from US$331.6 million in the same period last year, causing net profit to fall to US$265.3 million from US$275.9 million.

The net profit mainly originated from the company`s distribution businesses including those of its consolidated subsidiary in the first three months of this year with gas sale volume reaching 883 MMSCFD (million metric standard cubic feet per day), up from 787 MMSCFD in the same period last year, it said.

The increase in sale volume was fueled by PGN`s rising supplies and growing gas consumption by customers particularly those engaged in the industrial sector consisting of power plants and non-power plant sectors, it said.

The operating income also originated from the company and its subsidiary, PT Transportasi Gas Indonesia, which transmitted 877 MMSCFD of gas to customers in Sumatra, Jakarta, West Java and Singapore, he said.
