Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia will host the ASEAN Plus Eight joint exercise in counter-terrorism efforst at the Indonesian military Peace Keeping Center in Bogor, West Java on September 2013.

"We will host this joint training in counter terrorism as a co-chairman along with the US in the ASEAN Defense Minister Plus Eight Countries program," said Defense Ministry`s Secretary General Budiman here on Thursday.

The training will be participated in by ten ASEAN member countries and eight other countries, including the US, South Korea, Australia, Russia, China, India, New Zealand, and Japan.

Budiman said the Peace Keeping Center area in Bogor is currently under development progress which is expected to be completed and ready to be used on the date of event.

Before speaking to the press, the secretary general representing Vice Minister of Defense Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin to delivered a keynote speech in the 2013 ROK-RI Security and Defense Seminar in Jakarta, in which he said that Indonesia and South Korea have nurtured a strong mutual cooperation.

"The two countries` defense ministers met in September 2012 to discuss Indonesia and South Korea`s further cooperation in the defense and security sectors," he said.

According to Budiman, the Indonesian National Military sends commissioned officers to join the training and education in the National Defense University (NDU) of South Korea every year, while South Korea also sends its researchers from the Korea Institute for Defense Analysis (KIDA) to hold a joint-research in Indonesia and the ASEAN area.

Indonesia has also used South Korean military products like sub-marines, jet-fighters and combat vehicles and their spare-parts while South Korea has bought Indonesian jet-fighters of a CN-235 type in a grant contract cooperation.

On the other hand, Korean Ambassador to Indonesia Kim Young-sun said the security and defense cooperation was an epitome of a deep and mutual cooperation between two countries.

"Among other sectors of relations, I truly believe that defense and security cooperation is an epitome for an intensive relations between the two countries and without mutual understanding and trust no country can develop through government and industrial cooperation," he said.
