Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia`s largest telecommunications company PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia (Telkom) said it hoped to increase its income from business in data and information technology (IT) services.

Business in data service is thriving that the Telkom Group could rely on it for additional income, Arif Prabowo, vice president for public relations of the state telecommunications company, said on Thursday.

Prabowo said in the first quarter of this year Telkom recorded an income of Rp7.3 trillion from data, internet and information technology services or an increase of 20.1 percent on-year.

"The increase was thanks mainly to the program of "Indonesia Digital Network (IDN)," he said.

He expressed strong optimism that data service would expand both in network and content.

In the first quarter of 2013, Telkom recorded Rp19.5 trillion in total income up 9.8 percent from Rp17.8 trillion in the same period last year with net profit rising 4.7 percent to Rp3.4 trillion.

The largest contributor to the income of the Telkom Group is its cellular phone operator Telkomsel.

Telkomsel is the largest cellular phone operator in the country with subscribers more than 100 million.
