Komans HAM Commissioner Siane Indiriani said the terrorist suspect was shot to death while he was defenseless and armless.
Palu, C Sulawesi (ANTARA News) - The National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) has regretted the shooting to death of a terrorist suspect by the Densus 88 anti-terror squad in Poso District, Central Sulawesi, on Monday.

In a written statement here on Tuesday, Komans HAM Commissioner Siane Indiriani said the terrorist suspect was shot to death while he was defenseless and armless.

She asked the Densus 88 anti-terror squad to honestly admit the fact that had happened in the field.

"They should not twist the fact as if the victim had resisted and opened fire at the police," Siane said.

She said that Komnas HAM had found facts that the victim was not armed and did not resist the arrest. The victim was only running away when the anti-terror police were trying to arrest him.

As explained by the police, she said, security officers found a pistol with six bullets belonging to the victim.

Komnas HAM also urged the National Police to clarify the real incident in an effort to calm down the angry locals in Poso.

"We regret the repressive action taken by the Densus 88 officers which could adversely provoke the angers of the locals," said Siane.

Central Sulawesi Governor Longki Djanggola asked the Poso residents not to be provoked to take unlawful actions following the shooting of the terrorist suspect in Poso on Monday evening.

"Let us maintain security in Poso together," Longki said.

He also asked the Central Sulawesi Regional Police chief and the chief of the Tadulako District Military Command to cooperate in preserving security in Poso District.

It was reported on Monday that a terrorist suspect in Poso, known as Nudin alias Bondan, was shot and died later after shooting officers trying to arrest him.

"He would run over police officers forcing the police to shoot him that caused him to die," the spokesman of the Central Sulawesi Regional Police Command, Adjunct Senior Commissioner Soemarno, said.

Nudin, who had long been monitored, was seen riding a motorbike from Kayamanya village to Jalan Pulau Irian when the clash later broke out.

He said the police tried to stop him but he even accelerated while shooting at the officers causing the police to shoot back and hit him that caused his death.

Soemarno said Nudin was believed to have been involved in several cases of terrorism in Poso.

The suspect was also believed to have conducted robberies along with Abu Roban in Central Java to raise funds for financing their activities.

He said Nudin was also believed to have supplied logistics and other needs for the group led by Santoso in Poso as well as the groups of Asmar and Roy in Bima, West Nusa Tenggara.

The police confiscated a pistol and six bullets from his as evidence.

On Monday afternoon the police also discovered a collection of pipes believed to be used to make bombs in Tambarana village in Poso.

The items are now still being examined at the Poso resort police station.

Santoso has so far been wanted in connection with his alleged involvement in violent cases in Poso in the past few years.

Since a suicide bombing incident at the Poso district police station on June 3, 2013 the police had increased security in the district located 220 kilometers from Palu, the provincial capital of Central Sulawesi. (*)
