Baghdad (ANTARA News/Xinhua-OANA) - Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki sent a letter of congratulation on Thursday to the Egyptian interim President Adli Mansour for assuming his new position.

"As we renew our support to the brotherly people of Egypt and its wise choices, we confirm our confidence in the ability of Egyptians to overcome this difficult phase in order to restore their country`s role on both regional and international levels," read a statement issued by the premier`s office.

Maliki also expressed hope that Egypt would go ahead with " achieving the demands and aspirations of the its people, by conducting early elections as well as promoting the national reconciliation, as drawn up within the military future roadmap."

"Iraq looks forward to boosting ties between our two nations so as to achieve further progress and prosperity."

Earlier on Thursday, Egyptian Chief Justice Adli Mansour was sworn in as the interim head of state after the army ousted the president Morsi.

The nationwide protests against the Islamist-oriented Morsi broke out since June 30, the first anniversary of his rule, and the state`s armed forces set a 48-hour ultimatum to for Morsi to respond to people`s demands.

On Wednesday, the military put forward a roadmap for a transitional period, including Morsi`s overthrow and forming a national government without exclusion to any party.
