The figure increases two-fold from last year."
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia clinched US$43.1 million in transactions during its participation in the international trade exhibition, held in the Pakistani city of Karachi on July 5-7, the Trade Ministry said.

The transactions consisted of direct transactions worth US$3.15 million and orders worth US$40 million, the ministry said in a report released on Thursday.

Head of the ministry`s education and training center Parluhutan Tado Sianturi said the high value of transactions obtained from the expo called My Karachi Oasis of Harmony 2013 was very encouraging.

"The figure increases two-fold from last year," he said.

He said 20 Indonesian small-and medium-scale businesses engaged in garment, handicraft and food industries took part in the three-day expo.

"The number of participants is the biggest since Indonesia for the first time took part in the annual event," he said.

In the previous years, Indonesia sent 10-12 small-and medium-sized businesses to such an expo.

Among the Indonesian commodities displayed at the 2013 expo were Besurek batik and kopi luwak (civet coffee) from Bengkulu province, layered cake from Bandung, West Java province, and organic fertilizer from Pekalongan, Central Java province.

The Indonesian consul general based in Karachi, Rossalis R Adenan said the amount of transactions showed Indonesia`s success in the annual expo held by the Karachi chamber of commerce and industry.

"This is very successful. The amount of transactions is very extraordinary. Hopefully, it will have a large impact on our business in the future," he said.
