They still held the steel bars."
Batam, Riau Islands (ANTARA News) - All 11 escapees from the Baloi detention house in Batam on Wednesday morning are drug suspects.

They include seven detainees of the Barelang district police and four detainees of the Riau Island regional police, Brig. Gen. Endjang Sudrajat, the Riau Island regional police chief, said.

The detainees escaped after breaking an opening in the wall of the building using steel bars from their beds, Sudrajat said when visiting the detention house on Wednesday.

Apparently they timed their escape with the change of the prison guards, he said.

"We are still studying the motive driving the escapees. We have taken steps to prevent them from getting away from Batam," he said.

A witness Elvina Manulang said the escapees stopped a public transport vehicle to bring them away from the location of the Baloi detention house.

"They still held the steel bars," Elvina added.

The jail breaking came days after a big escape with around 150 prisoners running away after creating riot in a first class prison in Medan.
