We will also continue to serve the returning travelers as well as possible."
Merak, Banten (ANTARA News) - The Merak branch of Inland and Waterway Transportation Services (ASDP) has deployed 28 roll-on roll-off (roro) ferries in anticipation of an influx of returning Idul Fitri travelers.

"Although the port looks deserted, we have placed 28 ferries on standby to handle the inflow of Idul Fitri passengers," ASDP branch manager for Merak office Nana Sutisna said here on Friday.

He stated that his company kept the ferries ready to serve travelers returning from Bakauheni port in Sumatra`s Lampung province to Merak seaport on the western tip of Java.

The number of travelers returning from their hometowns is likely to peak on Sunday, because civil servants and employees of private companies are expected to report to their offices on Monday.

On Friday, transportation services from Merak in Java to Bakauheni in Sumatra functioned normally, with no increase in passenger traffic.

Merak port wore a deserted look, with only a small number of vehicles waiting to be ferried to Bakauheni port in Sumatra (Lampung).

ASDP Merak has committed to provide the best services to people using the ferry to cross the Sunda Strait.

"We will also continue to serve the returning travelers as well as possible," Nana said.

He said the deployment of 28 roro ferries was part of ASDP's efforts to achieve its target of exceeding 90 Merak-Bakauheni trips. Nana expressed hope that the high frequency of trips would prevent long queues from happening at the port.

"Our 28 ferries will help ensure the smooth flow of Idul Fitri traffic," Nana concluded.
