The blood demand in Jakarta is quite high."
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The blood stock in Jakarta is inadequate four days after the Idul Fitri Muslim festivities, an official of the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) said.

"The blood supply in Jakarta is categorized as very few. It`s even inadequate. It applies in all types of blood," dr Ulfa Suryani, the head of the blood supply section of the Red Cross, said here on Monday.

"During the fasting month of Ramadan, we had abundant stock of O and B type blood, and now the stock is stable. But, we now run out of blood of A and AB types," she said.

Normally, the blood supply reaches 1,300 to 1,500 pouches per day, but currently the supply is only 400 to 600 pouches per day.

"This is the situation of blood supply in Jakarta. The blood demand in Jakarta is quite high," she said.

The decrease in the blood supply is mainly because the number of PMI`s blood transfusion cars which are in operation, also drops.

Currently the Red Cross only operates five cars to collect blood from donors. The five cars could only collect around 100 blood pouches per day.
