Bogor, West Java (ANTARA News) - Police have named Muhammad Amin, the driver of Giri Indah tourist bus, a suspect in a deadly accident at Tugu Utara Village, Bogor District, West Java, on Wednesday.

"We have named the driver a key suspect in this accident," chief of the Bogor district police Adj. Snr. Comr. Asep Syafrudin said here on Thursday.

At least 20 people have died after the tourist bus carrying 53 passengers plunged into an eight-meter deep valley near Ciliwung River in the village.

It was reported the brake of the bus failed when it approached the valley at 8 a.m. on Wednesday.

Police are still investigating the condition of the bus to see if it was roadworthy when it met the accident.

So far, sixteen deceased people have been identified. They are Toto Sudarto, Sandra, Lidia Manik, Hana, Tom Simon, H Ajid Samsudi, Ani, Ginokon Sihotang, Marcel, Anton, Ines, Eflin Tompi, Nurlina, Femy, Yuliana Kurniawan, and Sulaeman.

A number of passengers were injured and four of them are being treated at Centra Medika Hospital in Cibinong, according to the police.

Police have not arrested Amin as he is being treated at the Kramatjati police hospital in East Jakarta.

If found guilty, Amin can be sentenced to up to five years in jail.
