Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Jakarta special corruption court on Monday sentenced a senior official of the health ministry to five years` imprisonment for corruption.

The court chaired by Nawawi Pomolongo, also fined Ratna Dewi Umar, former director of base medical service development Rp500 million for involvement in corruption in the procurement of health equipment to control bird flu in 2006-2007.

The punishment was the same as demanded by the general prosecutor of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

The court also agreed there were other parties including individuals and companies involved in the case.

Former health minister Siti Fadillah Supari, business leaders and a number of companies including PT Rajawali Nusindo, PT Prasasti Mitra, PT Airindo Sentra Medika, PT Fondaco Mitratama, PT Kartika Sentamas and PT Heltindo International were implicated in the case, that caused a loss of Rp50.47 billion to the state, a court judge Sutiyo said.
