"The law could be bought off. No more leader to be trusted in the country," outspoken IPW chairman Neta S Pane said.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian Police Watch (IPW) has expressed frustration with the Constitutional Court (MK) leader mired in graft case.

The Corruption Eradication Commission on Wednesday night arrested Chairman of the Constitutional Court Akil Mochtar on charge of receiving bribe money.

The arrest of Akil came only a few weeks after a similar case involving head of the Upstream Oil and Gas Regulator (SKK Migas) Rubi Rudiandini.

"The law could be bought off. No more leader to be trusted in the country," outspoken IPW chairman Neta S Pane said here on Thursday.

Pane said MK , which was expected to be the last fortress to protect the Constitution is not even reliable.

KPK arrested Akil Mochtar in his house after receiving illicit money from a Golkar lawmaker Chairun Nisa and a businessman CN .

Later that night two other accomplices Hambit Bintih, regent of Gunung Mas of Central Kalimantan and DH, another businessman

KPK spokesman Johan Budi on Wednesday night said the case is probably related to elections of leaders of regional administrations in Kalimantan.

Pane said the country "looks to have no more hope in upholding the law and the Constitution."

"Three years earlier a law expert Refly Harun tried to unveil a graft case at MK but he was ridiculed and scorned by many," he said.

He expressed high appreciation for "outstanding" performance of police officers working for KPK.

"They have the courage and are highly professional in their operation that they could catch the MK chairman red handed," he said.

The police officers under KPK have so far been consistent in their attempt to fight corruption and in upholding the supremacy of law in the country, he said.

He said the arrest of the MK chairman could serve as a milestone in law enforcement .

He said he hope to see more corrupt officials caught and punished.(*)
