Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Former Bank Indonesia Deputy Governor Budi Mulya has been detained by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) for alleged corrupt conduct during the handling of the former Century Bank case.

Mulya was detained for 20 days on Friday as a corruption suspect linked to the extension of a short-term funding facility to the Century Bank and the declaration of the bank as a failed bank.

"I believe this was done as part of the KPK's authority and advisement," Budi Mulya said after being grilled at the KPK Building.

"Let us just wait and see the process go further. Let us refer it to the process of law and I believe it will be settled based on the due process of law," he added.

The former Bank Indonesia Deputy Governor for Foreign Exchange Management was questioned for the first time on Friday after being named a suspect in November 2012.

He left the KPK Building at 4 p.m. after being questioned for around 12 hours.

He has been charged with misusing his authority to violate Article 3 of Law Number 31 of 1999 on corruption eradication, which has been changed into Law Number 20 of 2001 on acts committed to benefit self.

Besides Budi Mulya, another BI executive considered accountable for the extension of the loan is Siti Fajriah, but her investigation has been hindered because she has been too ill to undergo a legal process.

Bank Century had received a bailout of Rp6.7 trillion during the financial crisis of 2008, despite its failure to meet the requirements for the bailout.

According to the State Audit Board, Bank Indonesia failed to reach a strict decision against the bank by modifying its own regulations to allow the bank to receive the loan.
