Damascus (ANTARA News/Xinhua-OANA) - At least 11 people were killed on Monday in a mortar attack that struck Syrias northern city of Aleppo, the state-run SANA news agency reported.

The attack targeted the al-Jamilieh neighborhood, said SANA, adding that 20 others were wounded.

The incident came as the clashes between the Syrian troops and the rebels intensified recently, especially in the southeastern countryside of Aleppo.

SANA said Mondays attack was carried out by "terrorists," referring to the al-Qaida-linked rebels.

In the capital Damascus, two people were injured by a fresh mortar attack against three neighborhoods.

Meanwhile, the army killed and wounded more than 50 rebels in the southern province of Daraa, said SANA, adding that the army also killed 12 rebels in the eastern countryside of Damascus.
