Malang, East Java (ANTARA News) - An expedition of the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park Center has discovered a lake on the foot of Mt Semeru in the regency of Lumajang, East Java.

Apparently no man had ever visited the lake measuring around 7,000 sq. meter before, a member of the expedition team Andi Iskandar said here on Wednesday.

"It is beautiful but it is not easy to reach the location surrounded by difficult terrain," Andi said.

It took four hours to reach the location, which is only six kilometers from the village of Ranu Pane , he said.

He said the team saw no water spring nor outlet for the water from the lake named Lake Tompe around 1,733 kilometer above the sea level with air temperature of 14 degrees C.

Around the location there were various species of rare living matters such as Paruh Kodok Jawa (Batrachostomus Javanensis), Pinang Javana Blume and orchids .

Andi said the expedition also found eight mammal species and a primate around the lake.(*)
