Batam (ANTARA News) - At least 10 new foreign investors have indicated interest in investing in the free trade and port area of Batam planning to invest around US$15.727 billion.

"The investors think that it is still highly profitable to do business in Batam," Dwi Djoko Wiwoho, the spokesman of BP Batam said here on Thursday.

The investors want to do business in heavy equipment trade, real estate, ship building industry, dockyard and engineering procurement construction (EPC), oil and gas supporting service business, export and import business, Dwi Djoko said.

The foreign investors include from Singapore, Malaysia, Norway, China, the Netherlands and Australia.

The investors submitted their applications in November, 2013, he said, adding in October, 10 other foreign investors already submitted similar applications.

Some of the foreign investors hold partnership with local investors, he added.
