Anas is being investigated because he is a suspect based on two pieces of evidence."
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) denied allegations about playing politics in the graft case involving the former ruling party chief Anas Urbaningrum, as it is not a political institution, stated KPK spokesman Johan Budi.

"Anass lawyer Adnan Buyung Nasution accusation that KPK is playing politics and using the case for image building was not based on accurate and complete logic," he noted here on Friday.

Budi added that the KPK is a law enforcement agency working towards eradicating corruption.

"What political mileage will the KPK gain by pursuing this case? To the KPK, Anas is not special and just like any other citizen of the country. Anas is being investigated because he is a suspect based on two pieces of evidence," he claimed.

Budi added that there was no intervention from the governments side.

"There has been no order from the palace with regard to Anass case," he stated.

"Corruption is a heinous crime that can destroy the foundation of our society and nation," he pointed out.

Adnan has accused the KPK of being very political.

He noted that the KPK appears to have been influenced by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyonos statement before it finally named Anas as a graft suspect.

The President had called on the KPK to settle the Anas case immediately.

Adnan remarked that the KPKs decision was closely associated with its image building efforts in the field of law enforcement.

The senior lawyer declined to comment that the case had been engineered by the Cikeas or the Presidents family.
