Medan, North Sumatra (ANTARA News) - PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminium (Inalum) plans to increase its aluminium production in stages from currently 260,000 tons a year to 650,000 tons a year, its president director, S.S. Sijabat, has said.

"All of the management and employees have been resolved to implement corporate strategic plans in the next five to ten years by increasing production, diversifying products," he said at a meeti9ng with local media leaders here on Saturday evening.

He said the management and employees had been resolved to make the company which has now become the countrys state-owned company to the national pride and could compete in the international market.

Sijabat admitted that the price of aluminium has not yet improved and the condition was expected to still remain until the second quarter of this year.

PT Inalum was taken over by the Indonesian government following the expiration of contract after long negotiations with Japanese investors who owned most of the companys shares concluded on December 9 followed by the handing over of their shares to the Indonesian government on December 19.
