Tehran (ANTARA News/IRNA-0ANA) - President Hassan Rouhani received President of European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso on Thursday in Davos, Switzerland, and discussed with him Irans nuclear issue, Syria, and ways of expanding Iran-EU relations.

In the meeting, President Rouhani expressed hope that comprehensive negotiations between Iran and G 5+1 start as soon as possible, adding that he knows the talks are hard and complicated but with the will of the two sides, it can be done quickly.

The president emphasized that if NPT is the base of the negotiations, then the problem will be solved in a short time.

On the importance of confronting terrorism, the president said terrorism is a menace to all and all should work together against it since if it spreads, it can threaten not only the region but the whole world.

President Rouhani said the existing conditions are appropriate to expand ties with Europe and expressed hope that Iran and Europe develop relations.

Barroso, for his part, referred to the importance of Iran in the Middle East and said Europe is interested to expand ties with Iran.
