Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Manpower and Transmigration Minister Muhaimin Iskandar stated that the number of foreign workers in Indonesia continue to decline in the recent two years among other things due to upheaval of investment values.

Muhaimin in his press statement here on Sunday said that the decline in the number of foreign workers relating to the pace of Indonesian economy, and tight policy of foreign workers entry by considering some specific aspects.

Data on the entry permit of foreign employees to Indonesia as issued by the Manpower and Transmigration Ministry in the recent two years showed that their number in 2013 amounting 68,957 people or lower compared with 72,427 in 2012.

"The effort to control the number of foreign workers by the Indonesian government has to do with several aspects, among others, regarding the development of human resources. The foreign workers should also provide progress for the improvement of quality of manpower and Indonesian human resources through transfer of technology," the minister noted.

Foreign workers from the Peoples Republic of China, Japan, South Korea, India and Malaysia still dominate the total number of foreign workers who work in Indonesia, the data showed.
