Bandung, W Java (ANTARA News) - Indonesia will host the 6th Forum of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations on August 29-30 this year, a Foreign Ministry official said.

Indonesia is the first Asia Pacific country to enjoy the UN trust to host the event, the ministrys director general of public information and diplomacy Al Busyra Basnur said after attending a national convention aimed to draft a recommendation on national customs, civilization and culture 2014 at the Merdeka Building here on Sunday.

"Of course, we are proud of being the host of the event," he said.

The two-day event which will take place in the resort island of Bali will bring together representatives of 114 countries and 28 international organizations in charge of civilizations, he said.

One of the reasons behind the UNs decision to appoint Indonesia as the host of the event is its success in preserving different customs and ethnic groups in the country, he said.

"We are considered successful by the UN in preserving different customs in the country," he said.

The success is attributable to the countrys motto of Bhinneka Tunggal Ika (unity in diversity), he said.

"Bhinneka Tunggal Ika is our national motto and pride. Because of this, we enjoy the trust from the UN to host the event," he said.
