Suwardi began his career as judge at the Kotabaru district court in South Kalimantan in 1982.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono witnessed the swearing-in of Supreme Court deputy chief justice for non-judicial affairs Suwardi at the State Palace here on Tuesday.

Also attending the swearing-in ceremony were Vice President Boediono, Chief of the State Audit Board Hadi Poernomo, and Chief of the General Elections Commission Husni Manik Kamil.

A number of ministers including Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Djoko Suyanto, Law and Human Rights Minister Amir Syamsuddin, Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa, and Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Syarif Cicip Sutardjo were also present.

Suwardi was elected Supreme Court deputy chief justice for non-judicial affairs on January 21 by gaining 28 votes. He was sworn in based upon Presidential Decree No. 2/P/2014.

He began his career as judge at the Kotabaru district court in South Kalimantan in 1982.

He was appointed judge at the Banyuwangi district court in 1987, judge at the Samarinda district court in East Kalimantan in 1983, deputy chief of the Palu district court in Central Sulawesi in 1996 and chief of the North Jakarta district court in 2000.

He was appointed judge at the Medan appellate court in North Sumatra in 2003, deputy chief of the Banten appellate court in 2005, chief of the Tanjungkarang appellate court in Lampung in 2007 and deputy chief of the Jakarta appellate court in 2008.

In December 2008, he was appointed Supreme Court justice and in December 2012, inducted as chief of the Supreme Courts civil law chamber.
