Let us be an example on how to conduct democracy ethically and in an orderly way."
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono hoped that the quality of national politics and democracy will continue to improve along with improving awareness of all parties and reform processes.

"Let us make our politics and democracy more mature, civilized and qualitative," he in his twitter account @SBYudhoyono monitored by Antara here on Wednesday.

His tweet appeared ahead of the legislative elections scheduled on April 9, in which 15 political parties will compete for seats for their candidates in the district, city and provincial legislative assemblies and the national parliament.

President Yudhoyono has, in a number of occasions, emphasized the importance of contributing to the improvement of politics and democracy in the country.

In his book launched recently, he has also expressed the importance of cooperation, and the role played by the political elites in creating healthy and fair competition, and common spirit to not only win but also advance national politics and democracy.

"I also need to emphasize the importance of the role of the political elite and national figures in creating good examples for the implementation of politics and democracy," he explained.

"Let us be an example on how to conduct democracy ethically and in an orderly way. It is more honorable to win with respect than to win using the principle of end justifying means," he elaborated.

Good politics, he pointed out, is politics without violence and politics that brighten. That is the kind of politics and democracy that is to be developed in Indonesia, he added.

"At the end of my service, as the leader of the country, I wish to appeal to all people in Indonesia, especially the elite and national figures, to make our politics and democracy more mature, more civilized and more qualitative," he noted.

He reminded that democracy was the choice of the Indonesian people.

"But democracy that we choose must bring benefits to the people and not the other way round. The democracy that we are building must bring peace and order in the life of the people, nation and state instead of chaos, instability and commotion that will stop the country from development," he reiterated.
