What I can do is tell them what I had heard from Nazaruddin."
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) grilled Ruhut Sitompul, member of the House of Representatives Commission III, over the Hambalang sport center corruption case allegedly involving Anas Urbaningrum, the then secretary general of the Democratic Party.

"Yesterday we were in recess. My secretary texted me informing that I have been summoned as a witness in the Hambalang case involving Anas," Ruhut stated at the KPK building, on Wednesday.

"What I can do is tell them what I had heard from Nazaruddin," he noted.

Ruhut, of the ruling Democratic Party, noted that his party will not cover up for any of its cadres allegedly involved in corruption.

He pointed out that it was Nazaruddin, former treasurer of the Democratic Party who told him about Anas assets, but he did not know anything.

Anas has been falling, and one should not hit him again, he pointed out in response to the press questions about Anas assets.

The KPK has been investigating alleged funds flow to the Democratic Partys congress in 2010. The funds allegedly came from the Hambalang project that caused the state loss worth up to Rp463.66 billion.

Anas was named suspect on February 22, 2013, on the Hambalang corruption case. The then secretary general of the Democratic party was suspected to have received Rp2.21 billion, from the Hambalang project, to support his nomination as chairman of the Democratic Party in the partys congress in 2010. The money was allegedly received in stages between April 19 and December 6, 2010.

The money was allegedly spent, among other things, on the congress participants hotel accommodation, car renting and blackberry phones.

In addition to the corruption case, he was also suspected of having committed money laundering.

Anas assets that include plots of land in Yogyakarta and Bantul as well as a house in East Jakarta have been seized by the KPK.
