Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Rizal Djalil was elected to lead the State Audit Board (BPK), succeeding Hadi Poernomo who retired on April 21, 2014, BPK secretary general Hendar Ristriawan said.

Hendar said Rizal was elected in a session organized by the institution. "Today we held a session with the agenda of selecting the BPK chairman. We agreed through consensus to name Rizal Djalil as the BPK chief," Hendar said here on Tuesday.

He said the election of the BPK chief was in accordance with Law No. 15/2006 on BPK, which stipulated that the state audit board had the authority to select its own chairman and deputy chairman.

Next, Hendar said the BPK will propose to the President the inauguration of Rizal Djalil as the BPK chief.

"After that, Rizal will take his oath in the Supreme Court," he added.

He said Rizal will serve as the BPK chairman until October 19, 2014, because he had been appointed as a BPK member on October 19, 2009.

Hendar explained that the BPK session was held because the previous BPK chairman Hadi Poernomo had retired.

The BPK session was attended by all BPK members, except Ali Masykur Musa who is on a Umroh minor hajj pilgrimage to the Holy Land.(*)
