Semarang (ANTARA News) - The Drugs and Narcotic Eradication Directorate of Central Java Police has destroyed more than 11 thousand pills of ecstasy seized from drugs smuggling at the Ahmad Yani Airport, Semarang, on April 2, 2014.

The police destroyed the seized ecstasy weighing nearly 3.3 kilograms by dissolving the pills in water at the Central Java Regional Police Headquarters in Semarang city, on Wednesday.

An officer from the Drugs Forensic Laboratory randomly checked the authenticity of the ecstasy pills.

The Drugs and Narcotics Eradication Director Senior Commissioner M. Simbolon stated that the Semarang Attorney office has sent the evidence to the police to be destroyed.

"There was a provision by the Semarang Attorney to destroy the pills and they are ready to follow up with the subsequent legal proceedings," Simbolon added.

According to Simbolon, the illegal distribution of drugs and narcotics has become rampant across all strata of society.

He added that narcotics has been a lucrative business for several people. Several Indonesians have been recruited as drug couriers.

Earlier, the Indonesian Customs detained an Indonesian drug courier with the initials OAI at the Ahmad Yani Airport on April 2, 2014.

Tens of thousands of ecstasy pills were concealed inside a spotlight, which was been carried on an AirAsia flight from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to Semarang.
