Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The rupiah value fell against the US dollar closing at the level of 11,990 per dollar on Tuesday weakening from 11,865 earlier.

"Rupiah weakened in interbank transaction this afternoon amid the countrys positive economic data as expected by the market players," chief researcher of Monex Investindo Futures Ariston Tjendra said here on Tuesday.

In addition, some market players sold rupiah for profit after the currency rise earlier, Ariston said.

"Bank Indonesia is expected to intervene to prevent sharp fluctuations," he said.

Fiancial market observer from Bank Himpunan Saudara Rully Nova said despite positive domestic sentiment, the market was psychologically affected by on going conflict in Iraq.

The middle rate of Bank Indonesia on Tuesday showed rupiah gained to the level of 11,798 per dollar from the earlier level of 11,969.
