Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Israeli military attacks that have claimed civilian lives in Gaza Strip, Palestine, must immediately be put to an end, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said here on Wednesday.

"Indonesia has underlined four principles to create peace and security in Gaza. First, Israeli military action must be immediately stopped," he said at the commemoration of the Revelation of the Quran at the Presidential Palace.

President Yudhoyono said Indonesias support to Palestine has long been conveyed including its independence.

Indonesia condemned the Israeli military attacks, which are not proportional, he said.

"They are not only violating human rights but also international laws," he said.

President Yudhoyono also urged for an immediate cease fire, which should be under the auspices of the United Nations.

He said attacks and counterattacks must be prevented and humanitarian aid must be immediately supplied.

"If these principles are met, Indonesia believes that peaceful negotiations could be continued toward the establishment of a free and sovereign Palestinian state," he added.
