Ambon, Maluku (ANTARA News) - The West Seram Police have deployed 30 Mobile Brigade officers to end a communal clash between the residents of Luhu and Iha villages, Huamual Sub-district, West Seram District, Maluku Province, on Monday.

"The Mobile Brigade officers were sent there by speedboats to enable them to reach the villages in a very short time," Maluku Polices spokesman Adjunct Senior Commissioner Hassan Mukadar remarked here on Monday.

Nine people were killed and several others were injured in the fight that erupted at 5.30 a.m. local time, on Monday.

The deadly fight was believed to have started after the death of Hasan Waliulu in Iha village on July 31, 2014.

However, according to another report received earlier, the clash was triggered by the death of Juraid Puttuhena, an Iha villager whose body was found near Luhu village.

The five victims of Luhu village were identified as Ali Silou, Iza Heluth, Jumading Zuneth, Muhammad Tahir Silehu, and Ong Payapo, Mukadar noted.

Many people suffered injuries during the clash as the villagers used arrows, guns, and daggers.

Meanwhile, earlier, five people were reportedly killed in a clash between the Seith and Negeri Lima villages in Ambon, Maluku province.

Police officer Senior Commissioner Bintang Juliana reported that the violent clashes, which erupted on July 31, were triggered by the fatal stabbing of a Seith villager, Benjamin Maju, at Nahai hamlet in Negeri Lima village.
