Pekalongan, C Java (ANTARA News) - Mount Slamet, which straddles the five districts of Banyumas, Purbalingga, Pemalang, Tegal, and Brebes in Central Java, has spewed magma on ten occasions since Sunday night, noted the Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation Center (PVMBG).

"But, the magma that reached a height of 200-300 meters, has not affected residential areas," Sudrajat, the chief of Mount Slamet observatory post stated in Pemalang on Monday.

Based on visual observation, the weather condition around the volcano was cloudy with the wind moving in the westerly direction, he reported.

The volcano also produced strong thundering sounds.

"At least 22 light to strong thundering sounds along with drizzle were recorded," Sudrajat claimed.

Although the volcano showed signs of increased activity, the local residents need not panic because the volcano has not yet turned dangerous, he stated.

"Despite spewing magma and producing rumbling sounds, Mount Slamet is still not dangerous. We still put Mount Slamet under the third-highest alert status," Sudrajat affirmed.

The PVBMG has still banned the public from carrying out activities within a radius of 2 kilometers from the volcanos peak, he remarked.

"Climbers are also indefinitely banned from climbing the volcano since the activity of the volcano is still dangerous," Sudrajat added.
