Their deportation shows that they are not directly involved."
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Malaysia will deport two Indonesian police officers recently caught over an alleged involvement in a narcotic syndicate, police chief has said.

National police chief General Sutarman confirmed the report that the two Indonesian officers from the West Kalimantan regional police command, Adjunct Senior Commissioner Idha Endri Prasetiono and Brigadier MP Harahap, will be returned to the country.

With regard to their status, Sutarman stated that because Malaysia had taken the decision to deport the officers, it was likely that the officers were not directly connected to a Filipino suspect caught carrying 3.1 kilograms of methamphetamine at Kuala Lumpur Airport.

"Their deportation shows that they are not directly involved. If they had been involved, then Malaysia will certainly have meted out severe punishment. It is their decision and we respect that," he said.

Regarding the deportation process, Sutarman said a team had been sent to Malaysia to escort the two officers.

"A team has left this morning. Let us wait to find out whether they will be deported today and what the real issue is," he said.

Sutarman, meanwhile, assured that the two officers will be sanctioned. "They have violated a code of ethics and so will be given a disciplinary sanction," he noted.

The general police supervision inspector, General Dwi Priyatno, meanwhile, said he had prepared "actions" for the AKBP Idha Endri Prasetiono, former head of narcotics subdirectorate of the West Kalimantan Police Command, and his subordinate Brigadier MP Harahap, upon their arrival.

"The first action will be to deal with his permit issue. He had left abroad without a permit," he said.

Asked if the two will be fired, he said that was not an impossibility.

"It is possible that they will be fired, but the decision to give the maximum sentence lies in the hands of the chief of the West Kalimantan regional police command," he added.
