Serving Increasing Demand for Healthcare in Indonesia

JAKARTA, Sept 30, 2014 - (ANTARA) - Siloam Hospitals Group has again been honoured with Healthcare Services Provider of the Year at the Frost & Sullivan Indonesia Excellence Awards 2014, held last week in Jakarta. This achievement recognizes Siloam's excellent performance as the leader in the healthcare services industry in Indonesia.

Upon receiving this prestigious award, Romeo F. Lledo, President Director of the Group, proudly said, "I am glad that Siloam is on par with the best companies in Indonesia, and particularly proud of this recognition by the world's leading growth consulting company, Frost & Sullivan. This is the third consecutive time Siloam has been recognized as the best healthcare services provider in Indonesia, the result of in-depth market research done by Frost & Sullivan.

"Siloam's vision of International Quality has been completely transformed with total support and dedication from all our doctors, nurses and management staff, and tremendous trust from our loyal patients. I am confident that this Award will elevate Indonesian healthcare standards and I look forward to witnessing the healthcare transformation in Indonesia."

Eugene Van De Weerd, Country Director Frost and Sullivan Indonesia, congratulated Siloam's management on its growth strategy excellence, growth implementation excellence, degree of innovation with new products and technologies, leadership in customer value and leadership in market penetration.

"Siloam Hospitals have progressively invested in international quality hospitals that meet and exceed the expectations of the people in Indonesia," he said during the awards ceremony. "The company is poised to serve the increasing demand and number of patients from both self-pay and Universal Health Coverage (UHC) beneficiary categories. Siloam is truly an innovative healthcare provider in Indonesia and is ahead of the competition in terms of financial health, service quality and shareholder value."

Indonesia, among the world's most populous countries with rapid socio-economic growth, is one of the largest markets for healthcare in the South East Asia region. Demand for necessities like food, clean water, energy and healthcare is expected to rise due to increases in population. The main challenges for the healthcare industry in Indonesia are providing healthcare access to various islands / rural areas and dealing with a high incidence of non-communicable diseases.

The rising number of middle and upper income group in Indonesia is driving the demand for quality healthcare services. Dr. Anang Prayudi, Strategic Development Director, commented, "We plan to achieve a growth of about 30-40% by greenfield projects and mergers & acquisitions. We plan to expand Siloam's operations and presence in Indonesia by constructing new hospitals, expanding existing ones and making opportunistic acquisitions."

Dr. Andry, Chief Operations Officer, explained, "We opened a public health centre (Puskesmas) via a Public Private Partnership (PPP) model which is the first of its kind in Indonesia to cater to the healthcare needs of the consumers at the bottom of the pyramid. Currently it has 250 beds with 90% occupancy rate. We also developed a UPH Medical Science (UPHMS) program to synergise healthcare with education and research."
