Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) will welcome the United Development Party (PPP) if it joins the Great Indonesia Coalition (KIH), PDIP Executive Board Chairperson Puan Maharani said at Parliament Building here on Tuesday.

"We have seen over the past several days that colleagues in the PPP have had some enlightenment on who they can be friends with: those who have a heart, are consistent, and are committed to achieving a better future," Maharani said.

She expressed hope that the PPP will show its commitment and consistency if it joins the KIH, at least in deciding the leadership of the Peoples Consultative Assembly (MPR).

Commitment and consistency must be demonstrated, as a political fight cannot be performed from two different platforms at the same time.

Since the beginning, the PDIP and Joko Widodo (Jokowi) have expressed hope that the PPP will join the KIH for the nations development.

If the PPP joins the KIH, it will be given a leadership seat in the MPR, along with other political parties, such as the National Awakening Party, the National Democratic Party and the Peoples Conscience Party, that join the Coalition.

"One seat for the PPP, along with the other partners of the KIH," Maharani, daughter of former president Megawati Soekarnoputri, said.

In response to a question, she stated she will be grateful if the PAN also joined the Coalition. "Because, since the beginning, we wanted the PAN and PPP to join the KIH," she added.

Earlier, Deputy Chairman of the PPP Emron Pangkapi said his party might leave the Red-White Coalition (KMP) and join the KIH as the former failed to consider a PPP member for the MPRs leadership.

Pangkapi observed that since 1973, the PPP has always been part of the MPR leadership.

A plenary meeting of the House of Representatives (DPR) and the Regional Representative Council (DPD) was being held to select the chairman and vice-chairmen of the MPR.(*)
