Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Four construction workers died after being trapped under the collapsed connection bridge of Taman Ismail Marzukis library in Cikini, Central Jakarta, on Friday, at around 6 a.m. local time.

"The victims have been brought to the Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital of Central Jakarta," Central Jakarta Firefighters spokesperson, Sudarno, noted here on Friday.

The four dead victims were identified as Nur Ucup, Arden, Harno, and Budi, though the rescue team only managed to evacuate two of them.

Deputy Head of the Metro Menteng Police Department Commissioner M. Nababan stated that the remaining victims were still buried under the collapsed bridge.

Nababan reported that the rescue team is continuing its efforts to clear out the construction debris in a bid to evacuate the other dead victims and to also lookout for other possible victims.

Apart from the four deceased, the officers also rescued five injured workers: Wanto, Bayu, Imam, Harto, and Agung.

According to the police, the wet construction cast presumably caused the bridge to collapse.(*)
