Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The National Commission for Child Protection plans to soon build safe homes for child abuse victims, the commissions chairman, Aris Merdeka Sirait, stated here on Tuesday.

"Currently, there is no specific place or house to accommodate or protect those children," Aris pointed out.

The commission will cooperate with the Ministry of Social Affairs to build safe homes for them. Moreover, the child protection commission had also organized a fundraiser last Sunday morning (Nov. 2) at the Hotel Indonesia roundabout.

"The fundraising event was attended by about 1.5 thousand people, both children and adults," he informed Antara.

According to Aris, the child abuse victims, who had been residing in the safe houses, could undergo rehabilitation process such as treatment and therapy to help them overcome trauma.

Moreover, the houses would also function as a shelter from child abusers, who were mostly the people closest to them.

"We will not return the abused children to their old neighborhoods in which many child abusers live," he noted.(*)
