Dwi Soetjipto, who was the president director of state-owned cement producer PT Semen Indonesia, was sworn in at the state enterprises ministry in the presence of Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Sudirman Said.
Besides installing Dwi, Rini has named Ahmad Bambang (from Pertamina), Yenni Andayani (from Pertamina) and Arif Budima (a professional from McKinsey) as directors.
At a press conference after the inauguration, Rini stated that Dwi Soetjipto was the right person capable of accelerating Pertaminas transformation.
"Dwi Soetjipto as the best son of the nation, and with all his experience in managing a corporation, is expected to improve Pertamina. Pak (Mr) Dwis appointment is in line with President Joko Widodos directives with regard to accelerating the transformation of Pertamina into a world class company and improving transparency in downstream to upstream levels," she said.
Minister Sudirman Said, meanwhile, praised Dwi as a mature person and a strategic thinker.
"Managing Pertamina is not a light job. So, a figure like Dwi is needed to continue reforms in the company," he noted.
Dwi Soetjipto expressed readiness to carry out reforms.
Pertamina must become the spearhead of the governments vision and mission in the field of energy and in improving performances in upstream, midstream, and downstream levels, he remarked.
"We will prevent and suppress leakages and review our supply chain by managing it optimally," he added.
Born on November 10, 1955, in Surabaya, East Java, Dwi is one of Indonesias top executives.
Under his leadership, PT Semen Indonesia managed to bring PT Semen Padang, Semen Gresik, and Semen Tonasa under it.
He also expanded the company by opening a plant in Vietnam.
PT Semen Indonesia became a state-owned multinational company by purchasing Thong Long plant in Vietnam.
To appreciate his achievements, the media and communities in Vietnam have named him Vu Van Qui, or Vu Vi Tho.
Before joining PT Semen Indonesia, Dwi had been the president director of PT Semen Gresik since 2005 until the company transformed into PT Semen Indonesia Tbk. in 2013.
In 2009, Dwi received a doctorate in strategic and special management from state Indonesia University.
