Denpasar, Bali (ANTARA News) - The leaders of political parties backing the Red-and-White Coalition signaled their support for Aburizal Bakries chairmanship by attending the plenary session that marked the end of Golkar Partys congress here on Thursday.

"The presence of the Red-and-White Coalitions leaders is the first time in the history of plenary sessions of Golkars national congress," remarked Nurdin Halid, the chairman of the plenary session.

The Red-and-White Coalition leaders who attended the session were Prabowo Subianto of the Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra); Anis Matta, the president of the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS); Surya Dharma Ali, the former general chairman of the United Development Party (PPP) along with his successor Djan Faridz.

The Red-and-White Coalitions members, which also include the Democratic Party (PD) and the National Mandate Party (PAN), exercise their check and balance role in their relation with the government.

Golkar Party Chairman Aburizal Bakrie revealed that he had chosen 199 cadres to be part of the executive board. Among them are M.S. Hidayat who became the acting chairman of the Golkar Partys central executive board, Idrus Marham as the secretary general, and Bambang Soesatyo as the treasurer.

Aburizal Bakrie succeeded in regaining his chairmanship position for 2014-2019 period after winning the partys chairmanship election during the national congress.

In response to Aburizal Bakries reelection, Vice President Jusuf Kalla, who is also a senior politician of the Golkar Party, seemed reluctant to comment on the matter.

"Well, the election has been held. That is it," he remarked on Wednesday, while responding to questions posed by journalists regarding Bakries victory in the chairmanship election at the Golkar Partys national congress.

Bakrie was the sole candidate in the chairmanship election held during Golkars national congress organized in the Indonesian resort island of Bali on Wednesday.(*)
