Bogor, W Java (ANTARA News) - The police office of the West Java provincial city of Bogor has investigated the tree falling incident at the Bogor Botanical Garden which left six persons died and 24 others sustained injuries.

"The investigation was immediately taken over by the Bogor Police Chief Adjunct Senior Commissioner Irsan," the unit chief of the Police Detective and Criminal affairs of Bogor Police Adjunct Police commissioner Aulia Djabar said on Tuesday.

The investigation was carried out at the crime scene in the Bogor Botanical Garden, Monday (Jan 12) to collect some evidences.

The number of casualties has risen to six and 24 sustained injuries, Public Relations Officer of PMI Bogor Hospital Yudha W. Waspada said.

On Sunday at 10 a. m. local time, four persons died and 21 others wounded when a rotten tree fell at the Bogor Botanical Garden, Chief of the Central Bogor Police precinct Viktor reported.

The victims were employees of automobile manufacturing firm PT Asalta Mandiri Agung, which is located in the village of Nanggewer in Bogor district.

"The victims were among the 180 employees of the company who hold family gatherings at the location," a spokesman revealed.

On Sunday, Head of the Centre for Plant Conservation (PKT) of the Bogor Botanical Garden-LIPI (the Indonesian Institute of Sciences) Didik Widyamoko pointed out that all victims of the incident at the Botanical Garden will receive assistance and compensation from the botanical garden management and social insurance company Jasa Raharja, respectively.

"The families of the victims should not worry," Widyamoko remarked at PMI Bogor Hospital. The PKT head, however, did not disclose the compensation to be paid.(*)
