Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Abraham Samad vehemently denied the allegation about meeting political party leaders to support his bid for vice presidency and called it a mere slander.

"That Mr Abraham Samad had a number of meetings with several parties to discuss his nomination for vice president at that time is merely a slander," KPK Deputy Chief for Prevention Johan Budi said at the KPK building here on Thursday.

Earlier in the day, Hasto Kristiyanto, the acting secretary general of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI P), held a press conference.

Hasto alleged that Abraham Samad had held several meetings with top officials of the PDIP and the National Democrat (Nasdem) Party, including a meeting at the Capital Residence Sudirman Central Business District (SCBD) apartment, to discuss the nomination of the KPK chairman for vice president.

"Mr Abraham strongly denied what Mr Hasto had stated," Budi remarked.

Johan stated that the KPK leaders Abraham Samad, Bambang Widjojanto, Zulkarnain, and Adnan Pandu Praja, and other structural officials comprising deputy heads and directors had held a meeting to seek Abraham Samads clarification regarding the allegation.

"If anybody holds a press conference related to state agencies, including the KPK, of course, we will clarify it. Mr Abraham has firmly stated that the allegation is unfounded," he noted.

The KPK leadership will hold meetings with political parties only to discuss corruption eradication efforts, he added.
