Bekasi, W Java (ANTARA News) - Police in the West Java city of Bekasi shot dead three armed robbers as they tried to steal a motorcycle early Tuesday.

"They were killed in a shootout with police officers," Chief of the Bekasi City Police Snr. Comsr. Rudi Setiawan said on Wednesday.

The shootout started when the suspected robbers resisted arrest with one of them opening fire at the police officers.

The police received a report of robbery from a local resident who found three people trying to steal a motorcycle parked at Grand Shophouse City Walk in Jatisampurna sub-district.

The three suspected robbers were identified as Decky Chan (21), Rohim (29) and Samsudin (25)

"In the shootout Decky Chan was killed instantly, while Rohim attacked the police and Samsudin escaped," he said.

The police caught Rohim and took him to find the hideouts of Samsudin.

Shortly after arriving at the hideouts of Samsudin in Cileungsi, Bogor district, West Java, the police were involved in a fire fight with Samsudin.

"Rohim again attacked the police. We forcibly shot dead the two suspects in Cileungsi," he said.

The police also seized four home-made firearms, 14 bullets, four motorcycles and a mobile phone from the suspects.(*)
