Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesian President Joko Widodo expressed optimism that Indonesia can achieve food self-sufficiency in the next two to five years by increasing its agricultural production.

"I have discussed with the farmers who have increased their production from two to six tons and the others whose production increased from one and a half to three tons. We are beginning to see the multiple results of increased agricultural production," Joko Widodo said here on Thursday.

The president stated that the increase in production reflects Indonesias sound agricultural system that can help the nation to achieve the target of food self-sufficiency.

The agricultural system was established through cooperation, mentoring, and partnership between the people and government, Jokowi remarked.

"It means there is already a good agricultural system in place. We can replicate and spread it to other areas in Indonesia," Jokowi stated.

The president believes that Indonesia can achieve food security in the next three to five years.

Jokowi held discussions with several farmers during the Jakarta Food Security Summit (JFSS)-3 Expo held at the Jakarta Convention Center on February 12-14, 2015.

"The more I understand the situation, the more I believe that we can achieve food self-sufficiency," President Jokowi added.(*)
